In 1928, a major Hindu political leader in Punjab erected a memorial hospital/treatment centre in honour of his mother Gulab Devi, who had passed away a few years before. University Health Sciences Lahore affiliating Gulab Devi Postgraduate Medical Institute was founded in 2004.
